This business aimes to provide services for car, truck, and homeowners, which produce increased building and automotive energy efficiency. As homes and vehicles become more energy efficient, the costs to users can fall dramatically through reduced utility bills, longer-lasting appliances, and higher gas milage. In addition, more efficient homes reduce loads on utility suppliers, such as coal- or gas-fired power plants and gas stations. By reducing this demand, retrofitted homes and automobiles can reduce pollution, our reliance on unstable foreign energy sources, expensive construction of new utilities, and carbon release into the atmosphere.

The goal of this website is to provide a place for homeowners and automobile owners to educate themselves about retrofit technologies and options, as well as an online community space for users to learn from each other's experiences with energy savings. To explore the retrofit options I have gathered so far, click on the “Retrofits” link at the top of the page. By combining these topics in one location I hope to package and condense information into an easily usable form. This website is still in its early stages, but eventually I plan on adding detailed information about each retrofit option, including the price range and step-by-step details of completing different projects. If you have specific questions now, please feel free to contact me personally using my contact info at the bottom of the page. I also plan on using this site for my own retrofitting projects. As I complete projects, I will update the website with information on my successes and challenges, as well as the cost of the project and how much it is saving on utility bills. For completed projects, I will also calculate how long it takes for the upgrade to pay for itself through decreased energy costs (the payback period). Because this website is designed as a community resource, there will also be an area for users of this website to comment on different retrofits and share their successes or challenges with different projects.

This website also includes its own carbon emissions calculator, developed from carbon coefficients researched by my project advisor, Md Rumi Shammin of Oberlin College. To estimate your annual carbon emissions, click on the “Carbon Calculators” link at the top of the page.
